What did you do this past week?

This past week I finished the Voting project and finished a Big Data project on using AVRO to parse through user web traffic data and collate it into usable chunks of data. By collecting actions from web logs, one can determine which pieces of the website are receiving the most traffic. It was an interesting project.

What’s in your way?

The only thing in my way is time. I am spending alot of time preparing for interviews, working on assignments and keeping up with the readings. It does feel like alot of work and it’s all very time-consuming, so as long as I can manage that well, I will be able to accomplish all that I need to.

What will you do next week?

Next week I will continue working on projects, studying C++ for this class, and practicing algorithms problems for interviews. I will also continue adminstering the iOS class as those students are also halfway done with the course, and have now started on their group projects.

What was your experience of Project #2? (this question will vary, week to week)

Project 2 was very interesting and slightly challenging. We were supposed to implement the simplest possible solution first, which I did. The only thing was, after writing the solution out and putting it in hackerrank, I was able to pass all of the tests. I then spent several hours fine-tuning the program and completing all of the steps in the workflow.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My pick of the week is www.ACM.org. As most people are aware, UT has its own Association for Computing Machinery club. The parent organization at ACM.org has student memeberships for $19/year. Among the many benefits are access to digital libraries full of books and learning materials. They also have an email list which collects research publications from various universities, which is another good way to stay up to date on progress in the industry.
